Zephyr mask
Introduction
You undoubtedly recognize the appearance of the Zephyr mask if you can recall Bane from the Batman television series. They are breathable face masks, composed of silicon, and frequently have ear loops and nose clips that are adjustable for a precise fit. Multi-layer filtration and anti-microbial treatments are two further characteristics found in Zephyr masks.
Concept:
The Zephyr Mask often called the Phantom Mask or just the Mask, is a legendary item utilized in the popular video game Fire Emblem. Razer, a well-known company for its neon-colored gaming mouse, headphones, and keyboards, has adopted a similar design to curate face masks. It is an intriguing initial attempt to make entertaining masks under the name of "Project Hazel."
Project Hazel:
The project was a collaboration of engineers, healthcare professionals, and mask designers. Governmental regulations were tough to incorporate but were implemented at all levels of manufacturing by the company.
Aim: The project aimed to provide humans with wearable air-purification technology with funky esthetics.
The initial proposition of the Zephyr mask had the following design:
A transparent face cover
Neon lights inside
Built-in fans
External RGB lights
Interchangeable N95 filters with slots
Alongside them were adjustable rubber ear straps, internal microphones, external speakers, a UV sanitation stand, and a charging station. However, these features could not be incorporated into the final mask.
The outstanding features of the mask are:
For added comfort, the soft silicon face seal is made of the same material as hospital-grade respirators and is made to fit snugly over your mouth and nose.
It has been tested to stop air leakage and has two adjustable head straps.
In comparison to everyday disposable masks and standard cloth masks, filters and an airtight seal offer greater protection.
Its translucent plastic and internal lighting—can appear transparent enough to permit lip-reading and facilitate social interactions.
Particularly when worn during the warm months, fans provide comfort for your lips and nose.
The company also includes extra filters with the product. The filters last for 24 hours.
When wearing zephyr, there was a notable absence of foggy glasses, whether the fans were on or off.
All of the mask's features can be controlled by a phone app using Bluetooth connectivity.
Cons:
The mask is bulky
The weight may make it difficult for regular usage
A recent report suggests that the filters are not N95 grade
It is more of an industrial-grade mask than a domestic one.
Aesthetically funky but not very pleasing!
Conclusion:
The air quality standards are worsening by the day. Winters are more smoggy than foggy. Asthma, wheezing, COPD, and now COVID’19 have become household names. A handy and scientific air purifier is much warranted and calls for more research.
